frequently asked questions

General Questions

How can I work with you?

There are a few different ways to work with me! For a long time, my schedule has been closed to new clients entirely, but I’ve worked on coming up with ways to work with more clients than I’ve been able to in the past. You can find more information about the different options I offer here, but here’s the short version:

1. Premades. These are covers that are sold as-is and customized with your title/author name.

2. Custom Premades. These are a middle ground between custom covers and premade covers where you submit a request for a premade cover or series and get the option to purchase before I sell it publicly. I work on these as often as possible in my free time. These are the majority of the business I do, and what I most recommend for first time clients.

3. Custom Covers. These are my Gold/Silver packages. My custom schedule is filled three times a year on an application basis for both new and returning clients, though there is limited space available.

Why is your schedule so limited?

In the past, my cover schedule has been filled as far as two years in advance. I feel that kind of scheduling is stressful for both author and artist, so I now limit scheduling to four months at a time so that no longer happens. Unfortunately, there is often more demand for my schedule space than I’m able to fill. I truly wish I could work with everyone, but I’m only one person. This is why I offer multiple options of ways to work with me, and I do my best to work with new clients when possible while making sure the needs of ongoing/returning clients are met.

What is the best way to contact you?

You can contact me through the form on my website or through email at rebecca@bewitchingbookcovers.com. Please allow up to a week for a reply if you don’t currently have an ongoing project/don’t have one on the schedule, as I prioritize ongoing projects through the week.

Please do not message me about work inquiries on Facebook – I often keep my messenger turned off, and you are not likely to receive a reply through Facebook messenger. Keeping work-related contact through email allows me to easily find the information I need.

How can I get news and updates? Do you have a Facebook Group?

If you want to keep up with my work and see news and updates about scheduling, premade covers, and more, I recommend joining my active Facebook Group.

Do you offer stock photos?

Yes! I run the boutique stock website Bewitching Book Stock with my awesome team. Bewitching Book Stock images are included free in all of my cover packages.

How can I use my book cover?

You have a license to use your cover for sales and promotion of your book.

You can use it on Amazon/similar retailers and for print on demand books through KDP, IngramSpark, or similar companies.

You can create marketing images to advertise/promote your cover digitally/online.

You cannot use your book cover to create new book covers or use your cover for more than one book.

You cannot make changes to your book cover.

You cannot create print-on-demand items for distribution such as mugs, notebooks, art prints, etc, as those items are not permitted under most stock licensing terms. If you would like to create these items, you will need to purchase extended licenses from the stock company. This is something we can discuss.

When in doubt about what you can do, reference our contract or contact me.

Can I use your cover to continue my series on my own?

You cannot create new covers using the cover I’ve created for you. You also cannot make changes to the book cover without my permission.

If you need to continue your series with a different designer for any reason, this is something we will need to discuss.

Can I purchase the PSD (Photoshop) file to go with my cover?

I’m sorry, but this is not something I offer for legal reasons. You cannot purchase your PSD file.

However, if you contract with Tantor, I am willing to work with them to get the files they need to create your audiobook cover. Have your representative email the request to me and I will work with them directly.

Where do you get the images/resources for your covers?

I purchase image licenses through multiple sources. Shutterstock is the website I use primarily, though I also get images from premium/boutique stock sites such as Period Images and The Stock Alchemist. Additionally, I own my own boutique stock site at Bewitching Book Stock. I also work with Daz3D to create custom/unique models and images for use on covers. I purchase fonts from various websites.

All resources I use are licensed legally. If you need to know more about the images/fonts used on your cover, feel free to ask. I do recommend familiarizing yourself with the Shutterstock terms of service.

How do I schedule additional services for my book cover (ex: print cover, audio cover, marketing images, etc)?

Email me to request these sorts of things. Normally I complete these projects on the weekend after I receive the information from you, though there is a calendar with my availability on your Client Portal Login page.

How do I use/access my client portal?

You can access your client portal here.

When we first started working together, you should have received an email with instructions for using and accessing your client portal. If you need this email to be resent, please let me know and I’ll be happy to send you a fresh copy. If you have any questions that aren’t covered in your welcome email, email me.

How far in advance are you booked?

I limit scheduling to open three times a year for four month blocks (January-April; May-August; September-December) so that I am never booked out more than four months at a time. However, this does mean you need to plan ahead and make sure you apply for the correct scheduling block.

How do the scheduling blocks work?

You can find the current scheduling forms here LINK TO PAGE. Scheduling opens three times a year in four month blocks: January-April; May-August; September-December.

Clients with ongoing series are given scheduling priority and are guaranteed space on my schedule to continue their ongoing series (this includes continuing series based on customs or premades). The remaining space will be used to schedule new series for first time and returning clients based on the projects that are the best fit for my style/ability.

Unfortunately, there is often more demand for space than I have available, so not everyone who applies is guaranteed space.

What is your schedule?

 Monday-Wednesday: First Drafts

Thursday-Friday: Revisions/Finalized Covers

Saturday-Sunday: Miscellaneous Work (Print Covers, Marketing Images, Audio Covers, etc)

Premade Covers

when are new premades posted, and how can i get notified of them?

There isn’t a schedule for new premades (I create them when I have extra time). If you want to be notified of new premade covers as they’re posted, I recommend joining my Facebook Group.

Are your premades always posted to the website?

Usually, but not always. Occasionally, I’ll offer premade covers for auction in my group or will host a premade cover event. I also sometimes participate in community designer events with covers from many different designers. I recommend joining my Facebook Group for news and updates about these events.

Can you make changes to the premades?

Generally, no – premades are made to be sold as-is. I do not consider any changes whatsoever for premades until they’ve been available for a week. After that, I may consider changes. Pricing would depend on complexity. I may still decline changes, especially if they would change the cover substantially. If you need to change a premade substantially, you’re better off with a custom (or a custom premade).

Note: Matching branding to fit a cover into an existing series with covers created by me isn’t a major change. That’s something I can usually do without an additional fee (unless major composition changes are required). If you need me to match fonts to a series created by someone else, please get permission from your designer for me to match the branding they’ve created.

Do you accept payment plans?

Generally, no. If a cover has been available for longer than a week, I may be willing to consider working out a payment plan for a series, but this is generally not something I offer.

What premades are currently available?

I don’t often have available premades, as they tend to sell fast. This is why I recommend joining my Facebook Group to get the first chance to purchase them! However, you can see available premades in the Premade Store (sold covers have a purple SOLD badge over the art).

Can I make the premade into a series? How soon can I schedule?

Yes! Any premade can be turned into a series and continued with the Silver or Gold custom packages. You can also submit a Custom Premade request to continue the series (though, those are worked on in my free time and are NOT scheduled, so there’s no guarantee on the time frame for completion).

If you want to schedule custom covers, you can apply for the current scheduling block here LINK PAGE HERE. If you’re continuing a series based on a premade, you’ll be given priority scheduling and will be guaranteed schedule space to continue your series.

Can I purchase a cover for the future even if I don't know the title yet?

Absolutely! I save all files and can customize them with your title and author name whenever you’re ready. Go ahead and buy it, then contact me later to fix it up for you.

If you need to make changes to your title after it’s been customized, there is a $25 fee for any changes.

Can I edit the cover or add text myself?

No. I will not be providing the PSD file for editing, and I ask that you don’t make extra changes or adjustments on your own.

Can I re-sell my premade cover if I no longer want it? Can I get a refund?

No. All sales are final and non-refundable.

Are print covers included in the premade price? How can I schedule a print cover?

Premade covers do not include a back cover, and are for ebooks only. If you would like to order a wrap design to go with a premade, add the Print Add On ADD LINK HERE to your cart. Please only order the print add on when you have your final formatting complete and know page count, paper color, and front cover dimensions.

Print designs cost an additional $100.

What are your refund/cancellation policies?

If you need to cancel your project, please give me at least a month’s notice. Your deposit is non-refundable, but we can re-schedule and keep your deposit applied to your project as long as you give me more than a month’s notice. With less than a month’s notice, you will forfeit your deposit and will have to pay a new deposit in order to re-schedule.

Custom Premades

What are Custom Premades?

Custom Premades are a middle ground between Custom covers and Premade Covers. You can submit a premade request on the form here LINK FORM HERE. I work on these whenever I have time, and they are the majority of my business. I don’t guarantee all requests will be filled, but I do as many as I can.

Custom Covers: Silver Package

How do I know if the Silver Package is right for me? How does this compare to the Gold Package?

There is no practical difference in the final quality of the Silver Package vs the Gold. With both packages, you’ll get a custom cover that is beautiful and marketable, and in most cases, you can’t tell which was which when looking through my portfolio. The price difference is in the creation process. This package is limited to one revision, and you must select the primary stock photo(s) (this is usually the model).

I do recommend this package if you have a good idea of what you want and can find a great model to fit your character, and if you trust my ability to make you a marketable cover based on the strength of my portfolio. If you don’t mind spending some time to pick a stock photo and don’t think you’ll need many revisions, this is a great way to get an awesome cover for less than the Gold Package rate.

I do not recommend this package if you need a lot of control over the process or anticipate needing more than one revision to get it right. I also do not recommend this package if you need something particularly complex – with multiple complex characters, something unique that must be created, or something along those lines. I do not include 3D character creation in the Silver Package, so anything with more unique needs will likely need to be Gold.

Can I add more revisions?

No – this package is strictly limited to one revision. I like to call it a “Trust Me” package. If you think you’ll need more than one revision, I recommend the Gold Package.

Do I really have to find the stock photo myself? Even if the cover will be based on a premade?

Yes. For the Silver package, the client MUST select the primary stock photo for the cover (this is usually the model). No exceptions, as this is included in the pricing.

If you’re continuing a series based on a premade, you can contact me if you need help finding the model used on the first book, and I’ll point you in the right direction. If I used Daz3D (a 3D modeling program) to create a unique model, this does complicate things for the Silver Package – but we can figure something out.

I don't know how to look for stock photos. Where can I look?

Sites that are included in the Silver Package price (no extra fee):

Other websites I recommend (not included in the cost – you purchase the image and send it to me):

If you need some help, let me know. I can point you in the right direction.

Do I have to find every image for the cover?

No, you only have to find the primary stock photo (usually, this is the model). If you find something that will work for the background, or whatever else, you’re welcome to send it (especially if you have a very specific vision), but you’re not required to.

Can I send you a bunch of images to choose from?

Yes, absolutely. This is really helpful in creating you the best cover possible. But this isn’t required – if you have your heart set on a specific image, feel free to send that.

What if the image I pick doesn't work?

This happens sometimes, especially if you don’t have a particularly keen eye for design. Some images just aren’t suitable for cover design, even if they look cool. That’s okay! When I start work on your cover, I’ll see what we can do about finding a solution.

Things that make an image more likely to not work: weird cropping, strange lighting, odd coloring, bad resolution (this can happen even on stock sites sometimes).

Feel free to reach out before your project starts to ask me if an image will work if you’re not sure.

Will you send multiple design concepts?

Generally, I send one base concept to start. There will probably be variations on that concept – color, font, composition, etc – but they will be the same base concept. If things really aren’t working with the first concept I send, we can discuss options. The Silver Package only has one revision, which is why it’s important for you to pick out the photo – so we know going into the cover process you’ll be happy with it.

What are your refund/cancellation policies?

Your de
